Amazon.com Here's a nice, inexpensive way to get Chopin's two piano concertos on a single disc. Both Emil Gilels and André Watts are fine exponents of the composer's particular brand of elegance and pianistic flair, and they understand the music's strengths and weaknesses better than most. These concertos are early works, not all that interestingly orchestrated (with maybe one exception, Chopin never wrote for orchestra again), and not very well put together formally. What they do have is a full fund of characteristically wonderful tunes, and you can almost hear Chopin sigh after getting through the first movements, which are supposed to be "developmental."
