His first album for Columbia (after a decade with Warner Bros.) finds him once again mixing country tradition with rock dynamics. "Livin' on Borrowed Time" sounds enough like Hank Williams Jr. that it could pass as Bocephus Lite, while the title cut recycles every ramblin'-man cliché from the Allman/Skynyrd school. On "Never Get Away from Me," he offers sound-alike homage to Waylon Jennings (and wife Jessi Colter).
