Born in Texas in 1936, Roy Orbison started out his career as a country and western singer who gathered a loyal, local following in the 1950's. His big break came in the early 1960's when he moved over to Monument Records and began to record a string of very powerful, heart-wrenching songs which appeared on the charts over and over again. Roy’s contribution to the Rock n Roll scene has always been cherished by his loyal fans and even more so admired by his peers. Elvis Presley called Roy “The greatest singer in the world” and Bruce Springsteen, who inducted Roy into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, credits Roy with being a major influence in his early career and said, “I always wanted to sing like Roy Orbison, but everybody knows that no one sings like Roy Orbison”. In 1988 Roy returned once again to the pop scene by joining forces with musical giants Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne creating the mystical group “The Traveling Wilburys”. Roy Orbison was embarking on a new musical career, recording a new solo album and touring once again. He passed away of a heart attack on December 6, 1988.
