About the Artist The David Thom Band is one of the best traditional-style bluegrass bands performing today. This band brings tightness, power and energy to an idiom that grows more popular each decade. Based in Marin County, California,this group has been joined on stage by musicians like mandolin virtuoso David Grisman, John Rigsby formerly of Ralph Stanleys Clinch Mountain Boys, and other great musicians. The DTB has an extensive song base, including tunes from legends like Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley and Jimmy Martin. This group also packs a multitude of original songs. Stomping out the rhythm and picking a deft lead on his old Martin guitar, David Thom is the frontman for this band. His warm lead vocal provides a foundation for the polished harmonies this band loves to perform. Davids experience with folk and rock prior to his conversion to bluegrass broadens the groups repertoire to include songs from writers around the country. On five-string banjo is Jonathan Schiele, whose driving rolls and innovative, original instrumentals keep this group at the front of the California acoustic music scene. In addition, Jonathan adds a pure tenor vocal to the harmonies taking the band to that high, lonesome place in bluegrass. Bringing the backbeat to the forefront is mandolinist Jon Mask.
