The legendary Drifters first started recording back in 1953 when R & B music was limited to the black only radio stations but broke out of that hold in 1959 with There Goes My Baby and rock & roll found its first vocal group super-stars . Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988, they would go on to sell millions of records with hits such as This Magic Moment , Under the Boardwalk , Save the Last Dance for Me and On Broadway during a career that has spanned six decades . Various members came and went during that time with many having solo careers such as Ben E. King and Clyde McPhatter but the Drifters remained a powerful force in R & B and Pop music.
